For the end of last quarter of the year, Midmark is bringing back the Barrier-Free promo, where customers get lower prices and incentives on barrier-free power tables: the Midmark 623, Midmark 622, Ritter 223, and Ritter 222 models.
End-users—that’s you, the customer—get to choose from three incentives:
- A $750 buy-back,
- A Midmark product package worh $993 to include a side chair, stool, and halogen light,
- OR a TransforMED Consultation Package.
Tables must be purchaed between October 1 and November 30. So what are the benefits of getting a power table for your practice? For one, disabled patients won’t have to worry about getting lifted by your staff unto a static exam table. This helps with patient comfort. This also keeps your staff safe from injuries associated with lifting, which then lowers workman’s compensations claims and keeps your staff productive and happy.
They also include tax credits. The rules are a little in-depth to discuss here, but we’ll give them to you at your request. We also have a PDF brochure with even more information.

GE MAC800
GE has released a new EKG that brings together ease of use and the well-known and reliable Marquette 12SL analysis program into a small but powerful machine. The MAC800 Resting ECG features a preview screen, as well as a smaller print size.
Combining the optional memory storage with PDF and Word export makes the GE MAC800 the perfect ECG for doctors who perform house calls. While the printout may not be the larger format that doctors now prefer for easy charting, the ability to print the ECG using a standard computer makes up for the difference in the small printout.
Portability benefits include a built-in handle, a long battery life of 2 hours of continuous use, and a short, 4-hour recharge time.

Oximeter Plus Oxi-Go Sport Oximeter
The Oximeter Plus
Oxi-Go and the
Oxi-Go Pro are the first fingertip
pulse oximeter that doesn’t require a medical prescription. The simple display of the pulse rate, SPO2 and pulse bar gives you all you need in a
pulse oximeter. Take note, though, that under FDA rules, this is “not a medical device,” so it cannot be used for applications where a doctor actually prescribes a
pulse oximeter. It is not for use in wellness applications.
Despite the minor restriction around its use, it has its applications for sports and for aviation. It comes with the same quality as the medical line of pulse oximeters.

The US Department of Transportation has released new regulations requiring airlines to allow the use of FAA-approved portable oxygen concentrators, even if the airlines themselves haven’t independently approved of these devices. Airlines used to be able to refuse the use of an O2 concentrator, even if the FAA has approved of the product.
The regulation states that the patient has to have a physician’s state of oxygen necessity, signed within 10 days of the departure date, and that the portable concentrator has to have an FAA-approved label on it. So long as those conditions are met, every airline will have to allow the patient to board.
This is very good news for travelers who require a portable oxygen concentrator. For those who require this medical equipment on a daily basis, the initial outlay pays for itself versus arranging for rentals. With the release of the new guidelines, owning a portable oxygen concentrator becomes even more sensible.

GE Carescape Monitor
There are plenty of patient monitors in the market that are geared towards smaller practices. These monitors usually don’t have a large screen to display measurements or graphs. Instead they show the current reading in numerical form, which is perfectly fine for a small office that performs minor procedures. The GE Carescape patient monitor is one of the most affordable patient monitors that provide continuous monitoring of a patient’s vitals on regular intervals.
Unlike spot check devices that need to be activated after taking measurements, the GE Carescape
is useful when performing procedures, or perhaps during overnight, bedside monitoring.
Each Carescape we offer comes standard with non-invasive blood pressure, heart rate, and thermal printer. Optional add-ons include a thermometer and/or pulse oximeter sensor. Take note that unlike the DINAMAP which the Carescape replaced earlier this year, the units are not upgradable to add the thermometer or SPO2 sensor. They have to be ordered at the same time as the unit itself.

Exergen TAT5000 in action
Instant temperature readings by Exergen is as fast and simple as swiping your finger across your forehead, followed by a light touch behind the ear. This infrared thermometer reduces the cost of ownership of thermometry by virtually eliminating the need for disposable probe covers that oral, rectal, and tympanic thermometers require. The probe head disinfects itself using ionic silver over a period of six hours. Of course, you’ll have to clean it between uses with the same disinfectant wipes you would use when following SOP for surfaces like those on stethoscopes.
A Harvard Medical School Study finds the Exergen thermometer to be more accurate than ear thermometry, while multiple hospital studies find its accuracy to be comparable to rectal thermometry, all without the invasiveness. The Exergen TAT-5000 Thermometer is the best model for highest volume environments, while the TAT-2000 Temporal Thermometer works really well for smaller practices. A home use model of the TAT-2000 is also available as the TAT-2000C Thermometer.
