New from GE: MAC800 portable ECG

GE MAC800

GE MAC800

GE has released a new EKG that brings together ease of use and the well-known and reliable Marquette 12SL analysis program into a small but powerful machine. The MAC800 Resting ECG features a preview screen, as well as a smaller print size.

Combining the optional memory storage with PDF and Word export makes the GE MAC800 the perfect ECG for doctors who perform house calls. While the printout may not be the larger format that doctors now prefer for easy charting, the ability to print the ECG using a standard computer makes up for the difference in the small printout.

Portability benefits include a built-in handle, a long battery life of 2 hours of continuous use, and a short, 4-hour recharge time.

Carescape Configurations

GE Carescape Monitor

GE Carescape Monitor

There are plenty of patient monitors in the market that are geared towards smaller practices. These monitors usually don’t have a large screen to display measurements or graphs. Instead they show the current reading in numerical form, which is perfectly fine for a small office that performs minor procedures. The GE Carescape patient monitor is one of the most affordable patient monitors that provide continuous monitoring of a patient’s vitals on regular intervals.

Unlike spot check devices that need to be activated after taking measurements, the GE Carescape
is useful when performing procedures, or perhaps during overnight, bedside monitoring.

Each Carescape we offer comes standard with non-invasive blood pressure, heart rate, and thermal printer. Optional add-ons include a thermometer and/or pulse oximeter sensor. Take note that unlike the DINAMAP which the Carescape replaced earlier this year, the units are not upgradable to add the thermometer or SPO2 sensor. They have to be ordered at the same time as the unit itself.

Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer

Exergen TAT5000 in action

Exergen TAT5000 in action

Instant temperature readings by Exergen is as fast and simple as swiping your finger across your forehead, followed by a light touch behind the ear. This infrared thermometer reduces the cost of ownership of thermometry by virtually eliminating the need for disposable probe covers that oral, rectal, and tympanic thermometers require. The probe head disinfects itself using ionic silver over a period of six hours. Of course, you’ll have to clean it between uses with the same disinfectant wipes you would use when following SOP for surfaces like those on stethoscopes.

A Harvard Medical School Study finds the Exergen thermometer to be more accurate than ear thermometry, while multiple hospital studies find its accuracy to be comparable to rectal thermometry, all without the invasiveness. The Exergen TAT-5000 Thermometer is the best model for highest volume environments, while the TAT-2000 Temporal Thermometer works really well for smaller practices. A home use model of the TAT-2000 is also available as the TAT-2000C Thermometer.

CardioStress: stress testing without the financial stress

Stress & Resting Suite

Stress & Resting Suite

It’s the last day of Cardiocard week here at the Med-Electronics blog, and today we are featuring the Cardio Stress system. It’s basically a software and hardware upgrade to the resting ECG, and with a purchase of the Stress, you will get a patient cable for resting ECGs as well.

Just like all of the Cardiocard solutions we offer, the Cardiostress offers the most value for the smallest possible initial outlay. Some manufacturers’ stress systems sell for approximately $15000 without a treadmill. We offer a complete, turnkey solution including treadmill and computer for less than that amount.

It comes with all the features of Cardiocard software, and all products in the CardioSuite (Holter, Resting and Stress) will use the same patient database, thus streamlining your work flow and saving you time and effort that you can use to take better care of your patients. It reimburses an average of $100 using CPT 93015.

The CardioSuite is a great way to increase your income and care for your patients, so call us today at 1-888-321-1300 to request a product quote, or demo software.

Cardiocard Holter: all the features, all the time

Nasiff CardioHolter

Nasiff CardioHolter

It’s Cardiocard week here at Med-Electronics, and today we take a look at the Holter system.

The Nasiff CardioHolter package comes with one Holter recorder and the software you will need to organize and interpret your results. While other Holter systems provide two levels of features with their software, the CardioHolter provides all its features, all the time, from the first purchase.

No need to worry about paying for additional software upgrades when you come across functionality that you need. That said, none of the other Holter systems we offer are “crippled,” by any means. Most of the features that require additional expense are targeted towards cardiologists’ practices. The bottom line with the CardioHolter is in the bottom line: for a fraction of the price of the big names in Holter systems, you are lowering your initial outlay and will be turning a profit on your medical equipment very quickly.

Cardiocard PC-Based EKG

Cardiocard EKG

Cardiocard EKG

The many big names in the EKG industry all offer a PC-based version, but no one comes close in bringing together affordability and quality as the Cardiocard PC-Based EKG. It’s comes standard with interpretation, and addresses EMR integration issues by having a print-to-PDF report that can be placed easily under a patient’s file.

Aside from the obvious functionality of being an excellent EKG, networking different computers that use the same EKG will not cost you, the user, any additional costs for doing so. It even offers a monitoring option that can help you store as much EKG data as your file system will allow. Powered directly from your computer’s USB hub, the lightweight unit doesn’t need any additional batteries to run.

The best feature, perhaps, is the compatibility across different Windows operating systems. This EKG will work with a netbook running Windows XP Home, it can run on a laptop with Windows Vista, and if you find the need to get a new computer, most of them use a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista. To date, the Cardiocard EKG is the only PC-based EKG we offer that runs seamless with any of these operating systems.

Features aside, perhaps the most convincing aspect of the Cardiocard is its price. It is the most affordable EKG among PC-based units that we offer.

A word on spirometer calibration

One great benefit that the manufacturers of turbine-based spirometers—like the SDI Astra 300 or the Spirolab III—that gets emphasized is that the end-user doesn’t need to calibrate the spirometer to get accurate results.

This is well and fine, but some practitioners will still have to perform regular calibration tests on their spirometers. If the spirometry results are used in OSHA screening for patients in a number of industries, then you will have to maintain a regular record of calibration results for your spirometer. In situations like that, the calibration syringe isn’t so much an assurance of accuracy as it is a compliance requirement.

There are only a few days left for the SDI stimulus promo. Now is the best time to request quotes for a new Astra 200 or Astra 300 with reduced pricing and a free fingertip pulse oximeter! Call us today at 1-888-321-1300.

Maximizing profitability with your spirometer

Discovery 2 Spirometer

Discovery 2 Spirometer

Given that spirometers all take measurements of lung function, and given that reimbursements don’t depend on the equipment you use but on the tests themselves and the diagnoses, the financial benefits to your practice in running spirometry lay in the equipment’s ability to streamline your workflow, and save you time.

The basic spirometry test uses CPT code 94010 and requires a printed record of this test. The record can be printed out of a spirometer with a built-in printer, like the Futuremed Discovery 2, or with an external printer, as in the case of the Astra series by SDI or with the Renaissance II by Puritan-Bennett. The most common question we get asked is whether a spirometer does “pre- and post-” testing, as in pre-bronchodilation and post-bronchodilation. This test uses CPT code 94060 and reimburses almost double that of the 94010.

All of these numbers don’t mean anything if you are uncomfortable with the equipment you choose to get. The SDI Astra 200, for example, will only show values, but some doctors would prefer an on-screen display to explain the full volume loop to their patients. Its full-screen counterpart, that Astra 300, does that, but costs a little more.

Some doctors would rather not spend the time connecting a spirometer to a computer to download data and print the graph for their records. In that case, a spirometer with a built-in printer provides the greatest benefit in terms of time and workflow. The Discovery 2 or the Microlab 3500s would match these needs quite well.

Lastly, of course, profitability is maximized by a smaller initial outlay! Take advantage of the last 2 weeks of the SDI Stimulus promo, which ends April 30. Reduced prices and a free fingertip pulse oximeter help with keeping costs low.
