Carescape Configurations

GE Carescape Monitor

GE Carescape Monitor

There are plenty of patient monitors in the market that are geared towards smaller practices. These monitors usually don’t have a large screen to display measurements or graphs. Instead they show the current reading in numerical form, which is perfectly fine for a small office that performs minor procedures. The GE Carescape patient monitor is one of the most affordable patient monitors that provide continuous monitoring of a patient’s vitals on regular intervals.

Unlike spot check devices that need to be activated after taking measurements, the GE Carescape
is useful when performing procedures, or perhaps during overnight, bedside monitoring.

Each Carescape we offer comes standard with non-invasive blood pressure, heart rate, and thermal printer. Optional add-ons include a thermometer and/or pulse oximeter sensor. Take note that unlike the DINAMAP which the Carescape replaced earlier this year, the units are not upgradable to add the thermometer or SPO2 sensor. They have to be ordered at the same time as the unit itself.

CardioStress: stress testing without the financial stress

Stress & Resting Suite

Stress & Resting Suite

It’s the last day of Cardiocard week here at the Med-Electronics blog, and today we are featuring the Cardio Stress system. It’s basically a software and hardware upgrade to the resting ECG, and with a purchase of the Stress, you will get a patient cable for resting ECGs as well.

Just like all of the Cardiocard solutions we offer, the Cardiostress offers the most value for the smallest possible initial outlay. Some manufacturers’ stress systems sell for approximately $15000 without a treadmill. We offer a complete, turnkey solution including treadmill and computer for less than that amount.

It comes with all the features of Cardiocard software, and all products in the CardioSuite (Holter, Resting and Stress) will use the same patient database, thus streamlining your work flow and saving you time and effort that you can use to take better care of your patients. It reimburses an average of $100 using CPT 93015.

The CardioSuite is a great way to increase your income and care for your patients, so call us today at 1-888-321-1300 to request a product quote, or demo software.

Cardiocard Holter: all the features, all the time

Nasiff CardioHolter

Nasiff CardioHolter

It’s Cardiocard week here at Med-Electronics, and today we take a look at the Holter system.

The Nasiff CardioHolter package comes with one Holter recorder and the software you will need to organize and interpret your results. While other Holter systems provide two levels of features with their software, the CardioHolter provides all its features, all the time, from the first purchase.

No need to worry about paying for additional software upgrades when you come across functionality that you need. That said, none of the other Holter systems we offer are “crippled,” by any means. Most of the features that require additional expense are targeted towards cardiologists’ practices. The bottom line with the CardioHolter is in the bottom line: for a fraction of the price of the big names in Holter systems, you are lowering your initial outlay and will be turning a profit on your medical equipment very quickly.

A short primer on patient monitors

Welch Allyn Atlas Monitor

Welch Allyn Atlas Monitor

Not all vital signs monitors are created equally, and we don’t mean in terms of quality of readings or materials and construction, but simply in terms of functionality.

There are spot check monitors, such as the Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs and the Spot Vital Signs LXi, and then there are continuous monitors, like the Welch Allyn 300 Series, Welch Allyn Atlas, and the GE Carescape.

While some devices will overlap in function, most of the time these monitors occupy a functional space. They satisfy a need and must be chosen based on your needs. A spot check device does exactly what its name implies: it will quickly record a patient’s vitals before he sees the physician.

Continuous monitors are used for procedures, especially where anaesthesia is concerned. Each state has different regulations as to what vitals are being recorded, although the minimum is usually BP, HR and SPO2. Some states will require an ECG readout, which the Atlas monitor has, but the VSM300 and the Carescape do not. Some states require a printed record of these vitals during the procedure. Built-in printers must be ordered at the time of purchase.

With these short guidelines in mind, we at Med Electronics hope that choosing the right monitor for your practice will be easier.

Nihon Koden Cardiofax S

Nihon Koden Cardiofax S

Nihon Koden Cardiofax S

For practices with limited space, or for doctors who stay on the go, the Nihon Koden Cardiofax S is a small, lightweight EKG that is packed with features. Boasting a 5.7-inch color display and an integrated keyboard the Cardiofax S comes at an extremely competitive price compared to similar models. It also has in included patient simulator, to help troubleshoot the unit during a warranty call.

The compact nature of the Cardiofax S, however, requires compact paper. While not as cramped as a “traditional” 2.5-inch strip of paper, it prints out on a 3.5-inch sheet. Each tracing uses three sheets, which you can then separate and mount onto regular paper in your patients’ charts. Some may find this a disadvantage, but others would find it a welcome trade-off for portability.

It remains one of the most affordable ECGs to feature a keyboard and preview display.

Nonin Onyx 9500

Sometimes, a trend is just a trend. Sometimes, though, a trend has some history behind it. The Nonin Onyx 9500 is our most popular fingertip pulse oximeter. It’s ordered by individuals, doctors, urgent care centers, nursing homes… By far, it’s popularity is backed by a strong record of performance and quality.

We stand behind every pulse oximeter we offer, but among our offerings of fingertip pulse oximeters, the Onyx 9500 clearly stands out.

Summit Doppler Lifedop ABI System

Summit Doppler Lifedop L250AC

Summit Doppler Lifedop L250AC

If you’re an internist or family practitioner looking to expand your services, you may have heard of a vascular study, also called an ABI (Ankle-Brachial Index) exam. The Summit Doppler Lifedop ABI system is the most basic in a series of ABI doppler devices offered by Summit Doppler. The system comes in a two-cuff package (L250AB) or with four cuffs (L250AC) to help speed up the test. The system also includes a Doppler and a small printer that shows the waveform.

In other words, it has everything you need to get reimbursement for the ABI study. However, Medicare coverage and reimbursement is not nationwide. The requirements vary by state, and this is also the case with private insurance. From an information sheet by Summit Doppler (PDF):

CPT 93922 Coverage
In general, most Medicare carriers consider an “ABI” exam without blood-flow waveforms to be part of the general physical examination, and hence do not reimburse for “ABI’s” unless waveform analysis is included. CPT 93922 provides coverage for a single-level lower extremity physiologic study. When conducted at the ankle, this physiologic study has two components: 1) ABI values and 2) the bidirectional Doppler waveforms from the ankle (PT or DP arteries). The LifeDop ABI instrument provides a digital printout of the spectral mean Doppler waveform for documentation and reimbursement purposes. Note: Most Medicare carriers prohibit reimbursement for ankle waveforms generated by the older analog strip chart recorders, or for any device that does not provide a hard-copy of the waveform.

For quick reference, the national average reimbursement for diagnosis of PAD is $126 per exam. We have a comprehensive list (PDF) available. For other requirements for reimbursement that may vary by State, please call us at 1-888-321-1300 and our sales representatives will help you research the requirements for this test.

The Schiller AT-2: keeping things simple

Sometimes, the most important thing you need to do is get an EKG machine and get it done. The Schiller AT-2 has been a well-known name in EKGs since it first came out. Simple, and easy to use, it keeps the focus on getting the electrocardiographs and getting it ASAP.

Schiller AT-2 EKG Machine

Schiller AT-2 EKG

Sure, it may lack some of the fancy features—like a keyboard and screen—that more expensive models may have, but it provides quality EKG tracings, and clear interpretation of the results to help speed up diagnosis. For a 12-lead EKG with a great reputation and for the price that you can get it for, the Schiller AT-2 EKG provides clear full-size printouts, ready to fit into a patient chart without the use of mount forms. It’s been a mainstay for internal medicine and cardiology practices for years, and will be so for years to come.
